For the year no one warns you about

We're two parents in Sydney formulating a gentle scalp serum. It isn't ready yet. Until it is, we're publishing everything we learn.

Start here

Most people find us at about four months postpartum, standing in a bathroom holding more hair than they expected. If that's you: it's almost certainly normal, it has a name, and it ends.

Here's the plain version, and the longer reads underneath.

The 30-second version During pregnancy, higher oestrogen keeps more hairs in the growth phase than usual, so hair looks thicker. After birth, oestrogen drops and those extra hairs move into the resting phase together, then shed together. It usually starts around two to four months postpartum and peaks near month four. Most people see improvement within the first year.

You're not losing your hair. You're losing the hair pregnancy lent you.

What we're building, and what we won't say

We're formulating a scalp serum in Australia, made for pregnancy and postpartum. It's in development. We'll tell you what's in it and why, and we won't tell you it does things a serum can't do.

Australian law separates cosmetics from therapeutic goods, and any product claiming to grow hair or stop hair loss is a therapeutic good requiring regulatory approval. Ours won't make those claims — not as a technicality, but because we haven't seen evidence that any topical product shortens postpartum shedding. Time does that.

What a well-made product can do is stop you losing extra hair to breakage while you wait it out, and make the scalp feel comfortable. That's the job we're designing for.
